We have begun the Investigating ADDition and SUBTRACTion unit.
At the end of our learning, your child should be able to use :
At Home:
-practice counting to 100 by ones and tens
-practice writing numbers 0-20 daily
-discuss addition and subtraction using objects at home
At the end of our learning, your child should be able to use :
- fluently add and subtract within 5
- solve addition and subtraction word problems
- find the number that makes 10 when added to another number (using number 1 to 9)
At Home:

-Read from bag of books daily, having book discussions.
-When possible, practice writing daily (this can be in a journal, on loose paper, etc.).
-Practice sight words (these are on activity handouts that are sent home in your child's folder).
- listen to and participate in book discussions
- retell a story (setting, characters, plot)
- identify different types of stories as fiction or non-fiction
- poems
Phonics:
- short and long vowels (a, e, i, o, u)
- sneaky y (as a vowel...At the end of short words, y says "i". At the end of long words (2-syllable), y says "e".
- magic e
- digraphs/h brothers (th, sh, ch, wh)
- suffix -s and suffix -es
- welded sounds -am -an
Writing:
- opinion writing: Tell your opinion and reason(s) for your opinion.
At Home:
-Read from bag of books daily, having book discussions.
